Children learn to sort, group, and classify objects, recognize ordering relations and identify patterns. They develop the ability to make predictions, form generalizations and derive rules. Experiences with classification and patterning during the preschool years allows for hte development and practice of algebraic thinking and reasoning. (California Preschool Curriculum Framework, Volume 1). Prior to the session, participants read selections from state publications, and the article.. During the interactive session, participants will discuss strategies to help teachers integrate classification and patterning into their classroom environments and schedules.
