measurement
Professional Development Session
Format: Mixed model, 2 hour interactive session; Prior to the session: read selected state publication pages, chapters, and PowerPoint. During the session, discussion and group work.
Young children develop an intuitive notion of measurement through natural everyday experiences. Exploring and reflecting on comparison and meaurement sets preschool children on a path for developing a formal understanding of measurement later in school. Teachers should build on preschool children's emerging concepts of measurement and provide experiences that facilitate the development and learning of these concepts. (California Preschool Curriculum Framework, Volume 1). Prior to the session, participants read selections from state publications and chapters. During the interactive session, participants will create a job aid for teachers to support all children in learning and using comparison vocabulary.
