Region 9: English Language Development - Writing

Prepare young English Learners to communicate by writing! For young English Learners, development in writing focuses on writing as a means of communication, the beginning of writing forms, and writing to represent student names. Students benefit from opportunities to write in their home languages as they transfer to writing in English; therefore, home languages are often reflected in the stages of writing development. We will dialogue around how to support English Learners by providing opportunities for writing, and since emerging writing skills are linked to student’s oral language development, we will discuss maintaining and using a rich oral language environment in home languages and in English to assist in the writing process.
