Boxes and Big Ideas: Playing With STEAM & Inquiry invites educators to rediscover the power of simple materials—especially boxes—as catalysts for imagination, engineering, storytelling, and inquiry‑driven learning. Grounded in Count, Play, Explore (CPE) concepts, this session highlights how early math, playful exploration, and hands‑on discovery naturally emerge when children interact with open‑ended materials. Through rich children’s literature and collaborative design challenges, participants will transform everyday boxes into launchpads for STEAM thinking, creative problem‑solving, and joyful inquiry. Educators will engage in activities that blend science, technology, engineering, arts, and math with movement, storytelling, early math conversations, and culturally responsive play. Together, we will nurture curiosity, creativity, early math thinking, and essential 21st‑century skills through experiences that honor children’s natural drive to count, play, and explore. Learning Objectives: By the end of this session, participants will: Recognize the power of open‑ended materials—especially boxes—as tools for STEAM exploration, creativity, and inquiry‑driven learning. Engage with picture books and hands‑on activities that support diverse PK–5 learners through play, movement, and imaginative design. Integrate STEAM elements science, technology, engineering, arts, and math to deepen children’s understanding of literacy, problem‑solving, and early math concepts. Apply Count, Play, Explore (CPE) concepts to design learning experiences that strengthen early math thinking, playful inquiry, and exploration‑based problem‑solving using boxes and other open‑ended materials. Design culturally responsive, play‑rich learning opportunities that nurture curiosity, collaboration, and essential 21st‑century skills.
