History-Social Science Institute

The California Department of Education (CDE) is offering two-day History-Social Science Development Professional Learning Institutes for Certified CPIN Trainers. These institutes provide a unique platform where certified CPIN trainers can gather to hear the latest updates from national researchers, deepen knowledge and expertise in History-Social Science development, receive new learning modules to deliver to the field, and receive important updates to current modules based on current trends and new information from the field. All attendees leave with a variety of tools and resources to provide CPIN training and technical assistance.

Session Descriptions

Day 1 

Dr. Ross Thompson Deepening Knowledge through Research and Application
This session will include important updates and extensions to the foundational research the English language development domain in Early Learning Foundations and Curriculum Frameworks were based upon. Dr. Ross Thompson will share updates History-Social Science  research, share highlights from the newly released national report and demonstrate how it aligns directly to Preschool Learning Foundations and strategies in the Curriculum Framework. Participants will have an opportunity to ask questions and discuss the new information with their colleagues.

Integrated Resources

This session will provide information and experience with resources that can be used to individualize professional learning through using communities of practice in coaching and techincal assistance.

 

Day 2

Introduction of Responsive Early Education for Young Children and Families Experiencing Homelessness

Irenka Dominguez-Pareto is one of the key authors of the new publocation Responsive Early Education for Foster and Homeless Youth. She will provide background information about the content and proccess of writing the book that will deepen our knowledge of presenting the material to teachers and administrators.

 

CPIN Module Roll Out Responsive Early Education for Young Children and Families Experiencing Homelessness

This session includes hands-on experience with the new learning modules available for deliver by Certified CPIN Leads, Instructors and Partners. To gain access to these new module individuals must be present at this session. Trainers will provide key information on the purpose and deliver methods of the module.

 

 

 

Target Audience

To meet the need of the changing field, all CPIN certified leads, instructors and partners are invited to this one-day Volume 1 series. 

Institute Prerequisite

Completion of phases 1-3 CPIN Certification or completion of phase 1-2 and in process of phase 3 completion.

Professional Growth Hours

The forums offer 16 professional growth hours. CEUs or academic credit is available upon request from CSU Channel Islands.
