The ability to recognize letters is a basic step in the process of learning to read and write. Knowing letter names facilitates proficiency to decode text and helps connect the sounds in words and letters in print.  The focus of this professional development session in the Domain of Language and Literacy is Alphabetics & Word/Print Recognition and has been designed specifically for TK teachers. Strategies to encourage the infusion of names during teacher directed activities and curriculum planning will be provided. This session will explore how to incorporate meaningful, inclusive interactions, age and developmentally appropriate play activities as well as culturally familiar experiences to support learning and skill building in a classroom of diverse learners.  Participants will have the opportunity produce an idea/activity/experience to implement in their own classroom using resources found in the California Preschool Foundations, Preschool Curriculum Framework and other CDE publications.
