Region 9 - Creating Opportunities for Physical Development in Early Learning from the California Preschool/Transitional Kindergarten Learning Foundations

April 25, 2026 9:00am to 12:00pm

The Physical Development domain of the California Preschool Transitional Kindergarten Learning Foundations (PTKLF) focuses on children’s increasing ability to develop gross- and fine-motor skills, body awareness, coordination, and physical confidence. This training highlights how physical development supports young children’s overall growth and learning, including social interactions, self-confidence, and cognitive development. Participants will explore how they can actively support children’s physical development by observing individual needs, meeting children where they are, and intentionally planning movement experiences that foster growth. Throughout this training, participants will actively engage in movement-based activities and reflective discussions to deepen their understanding of how physical development is nurtured in preschool and transitional kindergarten settings.

Review the PTKLF Physical Development domain for children aged three to five-and-a-half years.
Build an understanding of the Physical Development domain and identify how teachers can support children's physical learning and development
Discuss how the PTKLF are representative of children's cultures, languages, and lived experiences.
