Region 9: History Social Science-Sense of Time/Sense of Place

Young Children are creatures of the “here and now!” As they develop, children (particularly ages 3-5 years) expand their mental timelines to include placement of past and future events and begin to develop an understanding of how they relate to each other. A sense of place is often one of the conduits for making timely connections. Minutes, hours, days and years start to take on new meaning as children acquire a deeper concept of time and their place in time.
