This California Preschool Instructional Network workshop demonstrates the importance of supporting children's emerging writing skills. Young children use scribble to make their first pictures and also thir first form of writing. Developing as a writer depends on the writer's understanding of how a particular written language looks and on the writers's language and thinking skills.

Participants will:

  • Become aware of the developmental sequence of writing
  • Learn how embed writing in everyday transitions and routines
  • Explore how to include Dual Language Learners and Children with Special Needs in writing activities

Level: Introductory

Audience: Teaching/Administrator/Leadership Staff, Family Child Care Providers, Family, Friend, and Neighbor Care Providers

Age Range: Preschool and Transitional Kindergarten

This training has been developed to support learning through active engagement. To receive credit for attendance, please note it will be expected of you to participate in any of the following that may take place throughout the training: breakout rooms, chat box responses, polls, and verbal discussions. Though camera access is not required, we highly encourage you to utilize your camera, if possible. We trust that you will take necessary breaks if needed but count on your participation to enrich the learning environment. Lastly, as a friendly reminder, please do not Zoom and Drive!

Important Workforce Registry Information: To receive professional development hours, participants are required to have a CA ECE Workforce Registry number prior to registering. Participants can access the Workforce Registry website to obtain their ID number by visiting https://www.caregistry.org/.

We are no longer providing attendance certificates; attendance will be entered into the California Workforce Registry (WFR). You can check your attendance in the WFR 2 weeks after the event. You can download a copy of your training report for your records.
