The Approaches to Learning (ATL) domain describes children engaging in a variety of behaviors that support their development and learning. These include participating in socially interactive and meaningful play experiences, initiating hands-on learning and problem-solving based on their own interests, demonstrating curiosity and a desire to learn, planning and making choices that reflect their personal interests, adhering to routines and schedules, and collaborating with both peers and adults. The ATL domain emphasizes the skills that help children engage in learning activities, solve problems, and work collaboratively—all through play. In fact, the word play appears 121 times across 11 pages in the PTKLF publication, underscoring its central role. Play is a vital element of learning approaches, and throughout this training, we will engage in play-based activities to deepen your understanding of this domain.
