Provide a climate of security and support by recognizing the importance of close relationships to students’ self-confidence and feelings about school! We will investigate the skill progression of children developing relationships and the impact of relationships on learning. Time will be spent on understanding the necessity of a “safe” environment and how to assist students in forming relational bonds, recognizing and appropriately responding to friends’ feelings and preferences. Dialogue will also center on building a classroom community where students see themselves as responsible members, and contribute to a community where cooperation is enjoyed.
Current research and resources from the CA Department of Education will be examined; practical classroom strategies will be shared; materials will be provided.
