Support TK students in becoming confident learners who make appropriate choices about their behavior and who care for others! Early childhood is a period of rapid growth in social and emotional understanding in which capacity for empathy and caring is developing. It is also a time for the development of self-regulation: acquiring the skills for sustaining attention, learning to problem-solve, managing behavioral impulses, and controlling emotions. These aspects of self-awareness are important components to school success because they influence young students’ self-confidence which, in turn, shapes their interest, motivation, and persistence in academic work. We will explore these areas of skill development and the teacher’s role in providing classroom supports to enhance growth for all young students.
Current research and resources from the CA Department of Education will be examined; practical classroom strategies will be shared; materials will be provided.
